Akshata and Andy decided to have a 2 day celebration in order to accommodate a Sangeet night on Thursday, followed by their Ceremony and Reception on Saturday. Nowadays, you see a lot of Sangeet celebrations double up or out-do what would be an American reception, but it was their intent to keep it a little more low key. They highlighted their family in a series of dances and shared in drinks and food and had a lot of fun preparing for the celebrations to come, all captured by photographer Laura Fisher. Tell us a little about your wedding style.
For our wedding, we wanted to create an unforgettable party full of laughter, joy and love. Most of my family lives abroad and Andy’s family is also scattered across the midwest so we also saw this as an opportunity to celebrate a family reunion and celebration on both sides separately and together! We got so many compliments about how various family members saw each other for the first time in years and had a blast doing so.
Why did you choose your venue and why did you love how it came together?
You’ll notice a common theme of wanting to make sure both of our cultures and roots felt represented in our wedding. The venue was another conscious choice to mix these two. I wanted to find a place that felt like it had a lot of personality and presence in order to keep up with all of the glamour and loudness of Indian wedding attire but at the same time didn’t want to overwhelm Andy’s family who come from humble backgrounds and may not be accustomed to how loud (visually and personality-wise) my family can be. The Cincinnati Club’s Oak Room was the perfect backdrop that had roots in Cincinnati while also feeling formal enough to host people traveling from out of town. We also loved that we could host the ceremony and reception in the same place while bein central to other things downtown. It gave our guese the opportunity to venture out or stay put as desired.
